When you run this Sucker, it opens a window and displays a list of the resources that were found in the ROMs and their names, if any. Then it opens a ResEdit file called “•ROM Resources” in the same folder as ROM Sucker. It then copies all the resources in your ROM into this file. Then the scroll bars become active so that you can scroll through the resource list. That’s about it, except that you can quit.
I threw this thing together in one day (it’s terrible to be unemployed and have too much time on your hands) because a while ago I downloaded a file called “StartUp-Crash-Beeps-11” that had some startup and error sounds from various Macs. They were taken out of the ROMs somehow. So I got curious about what might be in my ROMs. I figured there must be some interesting stuff in there, and I was right. I leave it to you to explore your own ROMs and discover what is there to be found.
This application was originally written in 680x0 assembly language. Since then I have done some cleanup work and it now pretty much functions as it should, without too much non-functional stuff. I have done a PowerPC assembly language translation so it is now a fat application. The PowerPC version fixes some bugs (the last resource is now saved to the resource file and the About box actually displays something), but I have not updated the 680x0 version.
